This week was Active School week. We did different activities every day. Every morning we walked to school from the Cathedral and Baunóg. Sometimes we had as many as 90 boys walking together to school.
2nd class did The Innocent Big Grow. We each got our own plant to take care of. We either got spinach, cress or pea shoots. Each week we brought our plant home and took care of it. On Monday we brought our plant back to school and the best taken care of plant gets Grower of the Week. For the Easter holidays we also brought the plant home.
On the 8th of March all the classes took part in Ceolchoirm Seachtain na Gaeilge. Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) is celebrated over 2 weeks in the run up to St. Patrick’s Day each year. During that fortnight we make an extra effort to speak Irish during our school day and celebrate all things Irish at our annual concert. Each class performed songs, tunes on the tin whistles and poems ‘as Gaeilge’. Some of 5th and 6th class boys volunteered to take part in a play organised by Ms. Lawless and Ms. Broderick called The Wizard Of Oz. All the performances were very good and well performed. At the end we sang the Ireland national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann. It was a lovely day.
In science we made fizzy rockets. You need vitamin tablets that fizz in water, a container with a pop off lid and blue-tack. We put blue-tack on the vitamin tablets and stuck them on the bottom of the pop off lid. Then we filled the container 1/4 of the way up with water and we put the lid back on. Then we shook it and flipped it upside down and we watched it fly.
