On the 8th of March all the classes took part in Ceolchoirm Seachtain na Gaeilge. Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) is celebrated over 2 weeks in the run up to St. Patrick’s Day each year. During that fortnight we make an extra effort to speak Irish during our school day and celebrate all things Irish at our annual concert. Each class performed songs, tunes on the tin whistles and poems ‘as Gaeilge’. Some of 5th and 6th class boys volunteered to take part in a play organised by Ms. Lawless and Ms. Broderick called The Wizard Of Oz. All the performances were very good and well performed. At the end we sang the Ireland national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann. It was a lovely day.

Freemen built the crannógs. They were built on water using stone and wood with clay in the middle. The process would be continued until it was one meter high. In 1834 stone paths were found in a trench along with stone axes, bronze and iron. They also thought they found Irish elk antlers witch would make Loughrea the oldest town in Ireland and also found 300 pounds of bones. Stone paths were built to the cranógs with some stones being placed on sticks so when you stood on them you would fall into the water. The first sight to be excavated was Lough Gúr in Co Meath where they found 150 carts of bones.
