Rugby Blitz

admin : November 5, 2018 7:41 am : Active Schools Flag, Blog, Health Promoting School, Mr. MacLochlainn, Ms. Mahoney, News

The boys from 5th and 6th took part in a rugby blitz during the week before the midterm break. This was the culmination of several weeks of training for the lads who worked with a Connacht Rugby skills coach every week to help them with the basic skills and rules of the game. They loved the experience and had great fun at the blitz which took place in Loughrea Rugby Field. Lots of the lads are hoping now to continue on with Loughrea Rugby Club over the winter which is a great way to keep active during the next few months.

Our 6th class boys have just finished this year’s Cycle Right cycling course and all passed with flying colours. Leroy and Richard were back again this year to out the lads through their paces. This year they even taught three of our boys how to cycle for the first time. The lads all really enjoyed the course and can’t wait to put their new road safety tips into action.

Football Mini Sevens

admin : October 26, 2018 1:12 pm : Blog, Health Promoting School, Mr. MacLochlainn, Mr. Monahan, Mr. Mulhall, Ms. Mahoney, News

This year the football mini sevens was held in Leitrim. First we played Kiltartan and we won. After that we played Woodford and we won so we were waiting to find out who to play in the final. There was a three way tie in the other groups and so we had to wait until they played their playoff. Kinvara eventually won through and it was the we played in the final. After a tough game, we won and went through to play in the County Finals in Annaghdown.

In Annaghdown we played Mervue, Miltown and Kileeneen. We played three tough and lose games but unfortunately drew won and narrowly lost the other two. We had a great couple of days with lots of good football though.

Hurling Mini Sevens

admin : October 26, 2018 1:02 pm : Blog, Health Promoting School, Mr. MacLochlainn, Mr. Monahan, Mr. Mulhall, Ms. Mahoney, News

The hurling mini 7’s is a tournament we play every year for some of our younger players. This year it was held in Kilconieron. First we played Mullagh and drew. After that we played Leitrim and won. Then we were supposed to play another team but they didn’t show up. Mullagh and Leitrim played and Mullagh won so we were tied on points with Mullagh. We played to see who would go through and we drew it and went to extra time and we won. We went on to play Carrabane and whoever won would go through to Louhgeorge to play the finals. Unfortunately we were beaten but we had a great day.

Pots

admin : October 18, 2018 11:22 am : Mr. MacLochlainn

We made clay pots (based on ancient Egyptian canopic jars) a few days ago which had two different ways of being made. Pinching it was one way of doing it which was a quicker but maybe not as well shaped as the other ways, you just push against the clay until you have shaped it into a pot. After that we made lids for our pots with some of the Egyptian gods made onto our lids and we are still waiting on them to dry. Then we painted the pots and put some designs on them.

Hieroglyphics

admin : October 18, 2018 11:14 am : Mr. MacLochlainn, Uncategorized

We did some art on hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics was the ancient Egyptian way of writing.Over the years archaeologists have discovered an alphabet which is pretty accurate. The hieroglyphics were drawn on rocks and included bird drawings and plenty of other cool drawings, we drew our names or other little messages out on pieces of paper and cut them out with curves to make them look older. `
