Adire Inspired Art

admin : April 12, 2018 12:45 pm : Ms. Murray

We made art inspired by Adire textile art which is an indigo-dyed cloth made in Nigeria by Yoruba women. The women make the textile art using a variety of resist-dyeing techniques. We made patterns on watercolour paper using wax crayons. Then we painted over the wax crayon with a mixture of blue and black paint with added water. The wax then resisted the paint! We made birds with oil pastels to make tribal colours and patterns. After it was dry we stuck the birds on. We think they look great!

Leaf Printing

admin : March 21, 2018 12:16 pm : Green Schools, Ms. Murray

We collected lots of different leaves to use for printing. We put white paint on the inside of the leaves and used them to print onto black paper. To print we pushed them onto the paper and carefully lifted them up. Once they were dry we coloured in the spaces with colouring pencils before using sponges to paint around the leaves.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

admin : March 16, 2018 2:22 pm : Mr. MacLochlainn, Mr. Monahan, Mr. Mulhall, Ms. Fox, Ms. Mahoney, Ms. McCarthy, Ms. McTigue, Ms. Murray, News

On the 8th of March all the classes took part in Ceolchoirm Seachtain na Gaeilge. Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Week) is celebrated over 2 weeks in the run up to St. Patrick’s Day each year. During that fortnight we make an extra effort to speak Irish during our school day and celebrate all things Irish at our annual concert. Each class performed songs, tunes on the tin whistles and poems ‘as Gaeilge’. Some of 5th and 6th class boys volunteered to take part in a play organised by Ms. Lawless and Ms. Broderick called The Wizard Of Oz. All the performances were very good and well performed. At the end we sang the Ireland national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann. It was a lovely day.

FAI Soccer Blitzes

admin : March 16, 2018 1:57 pm : Active Schools Flag, Health Promoting School, Mr. MacLochlainn, Ms. Mahoney, Ms. Murray, News

The school entered the FAI 5 aside school’s soccer blitzes this year. The teams were picked from 5th and 6th classes. We started off with about 50 players and then narrowed it down to 30 and then to 24. The 24 were the school teams of A, B and C. After a week of training we went to the blitz. We went to Salthill, Devon soccer grounds and there we played our matches. Each team played four matches except the A team who played six. The C team lost all their matches the B team won one drew one and lost two and the A team won four and lost two. Our A team got to the final but unfortunately lost. We had a great day out and sang lots of songs on the way home!
