Sport at St Brendan's

Sport

Sport and fitness and their positive impact on well-being are very important aspects of school life in St. Brendan's.  Our school has a long tradition in many field sports as evidenced by many of our past pupils having achieved national honours in hurling, rugby and athletics.  we had the pleasure of seeing two of our past pupils, Shane Morgan and Tiernan Killeen win the All-Ireland Minor Hurling title with Galway in 2019.  We were delighted when they, with Kieran Hanrahan, became All-Ireland champions again in 2020 (the final was played in July 2021).

Our Hurling and Football teams are consistently very competitive in county Championships and have won honours in both codes throughout the years.  Training and skill sessions are undertaken by teachers both at break times and on specified evenings after school.  We are also visited by Connacht GAA coaches during the school year and Loughrea Hurling Club also provide coaching sessions.

The school competes very successfully in both cross country and athletics competitions annually and we are the current Manning Athletics Competition winners. The Board of Management funds swimming lessons for 3rd and 4th class boys.
